HTML GIANT
This is a new little something something in support of online journals and indie presses. Read the description from BLAKE BUTLER:
"HTML GIANT is a thing Gene Morgan approached me about doing, 'approached,' we wanted to do a website that focuses the indie press and online writing news in a central format, sort of like Pitchfork or Bookslut or Gawker for online writing and indie presses only, bringing the goods and becoming things, it will continue to become things, it will have internet writing related news outside of the big press related news blogs, things will happen, I will eat a sandcastle in my parents' basement,
We will feature writers and journals and such, if you have things to say about it there is htmlgiant [at] gmail [dot] com, I'd prefer no emails to my private email my balls are on top of the Sears Tower, I realized the other day that Gene is the dad of the internet, I will call him Dad from now on, there is a lot on the site already, we are going to slowly leak until we have eaten a conch shell the size of somewhere, more is planned and brimming, there are lots of good writers also blogging the news already, they wear derby hats in their room when they are writing, it is required, they must also wear translucent pants and cry a lot.
Please check it out and bookmark and get fed."

PRE-ORDER: SAM PINK - CLONE
Pre-order Sam Pink's full-length collection:
"Sam Pink exists in all things. Sam Pink's tremor is threaded through the dark sections of scenes in the first Back to the Future, the sections we generally think of as 'night.' Sam Pink gored his way to the center of the child Russell Edson and ate all the beautiful / smart / wicked / fucked / riotous / smarmy / unconditional parts about him, then went to incubate and redouble. Sam Pink absorbed the passing souls of Andy Kaufman, Anton LaVey, Klaus Kinski and Shel Silverstein and fried them in his mother's blood. When Sam Pink emerged he wasn't crying, but everyone in the hospital was, tears of whiskey, liquid gold and smegma, and within seconds of his first breath, all our Bibles were ripped in half, prefiguring this book here, this tumor, this thing that should not have a name. It is no exaggeration to say now, with a mouth full of blood, that Sam Pink is dire, is hilarious, is chewing up our future."

PRICK OF THE SPINDLE - 2.3
The latest issue of Prick of the Spindle is now live. Cynthia Reeser and all the other folks there are bad asses. It's one of my favorites, one of the few I look forward to reading every word of every issue. Mainly because you never know what you're going to find, I mean you know it will be amazing, but that's it. You can't get bored there. In my mind, Cynthia is perfect and maybe we should procreate and begin the era of the superhuman.

THE WHITE ROAD AND OTHER STORIES - tania hershman
TANIA HERSHMAN
THE WHITE ROAD and other stories
"These stories are acute, meticulous, memorable. Tania Hershman is definitely a writer worth watching."
- Toby Litt, author of ‘I Play the Drums in A Band Called Okay’, 'Adventures in Capitalism' and 'Exhibitionism'.
"Incredibly lush, intelligent, seductive, Hershman’s collection reveals a marvelously varied repertoire of narrative styles and subjects that are so compelling, so deliciously readable, it’s impossible to finish one story without quickly beginning another."
- Sunshine O’Donnell, author of ‘Open Me’
"Though Ms. Hershman is willing to go anywhere in her imagination, her stories are anchored by a poignant awareness of sorrow beneath the surface. The White Road is a unique combination of narrative extravagance and human intimacy."
- Melvin Jules Bukiet, author of ‘Strange Fire' and 'A Faker's Dozen’
"Tania Hershman's very short stories manage to pack the punch of fiction many times longer. Her strategy is highly original, consistently interesting, and astonishingly moving. Joining the impersonal facts of scientific research with our human fragility, complexity and tragedy, Hershman extracts poignancy out of the laws of nature."
- Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, author of 'The Mind-Body Problem' and 'Incompleteness: The Proof and Paradox of Kurt Godel'

GOODBYE SNOOPY
HOBART 9
I got my contributor copy of Hobart in the mail today. Thanks Aaron. I cried a little bit when I opened the cover. Not the same kind of crying I do when I watch Snoopy Come Home. This was just a mist, my eyes just got a little watery, no weeping.
The cover is beautiful, the interior is beautiful, everyone's work is beautiful. I feel beautiful today. I'm gonna go scroll through my Monica Lewinsky photo album and eat a ham and cheese sandwich.
Thanks again Aaron, you're the man.

IT'S HERE. IT'S HERE. IT'S FINALLY FUCKING HERE
UPDATE:
So I slept with the anthology last night. At first I was just gonna stick it under my pillow and let its brilliance soak into my brain, and I did, for awhile. But then I grabbed it and tucked it in beside me and gave it it's own place on the pillow. It wouldn't lay still. We sat up and watched reruns of Scrubs and drank 40's of St. Ides all night and passed out on the floor. Ahhhh good times. I woke up before the anthology did and reflected on the night we spent together. It was still erratic, beautiful, ugly, imperfect, I loved it all over again. You will too.
"I go to Dogzplot to find out who put the demon in the vestibule, the atom bomb in the kitchen. We need these stories now more than ever."
– Kyle Minor, author In the Devil's Territory
That's right. I picked the DOGZPLOT FLASH FICTION 2008 anthologies up from the printers today and they kicked my ass the whole way home. A few of them jumped out of the box and beat the shit out of me with my four way crow bar, others where giving me a hand job. They're out of control. The anthology features work from:
Chad Simpson
Kim Chinquee
Claudia Smith
Elizabeth Ellen
Beth Thomas
Matt Bell
CL Bledsoe
Scott Garson
Aaron Burch
Dawn Corrigan
Stefan Kiesbye
...and so many other rock stars that its ridiculous, nuts, I'm telling you. Order it now. Paypal link is to the right. And if you are a contributor. I'm heading to the post office tomorrow. If you live by me. I'm saving the postage so I'll come see you over the weekend.
I just licked one of the pages. Imagine those magic candy balls in Willy Wonka.

CURTIS SMITH / SOUND + NOISE
CURTIS SMITH
SOUND + NOISE
CASPERIAN BOOKS
"Only occasionally do I read a novel where the characters remain like old friends long after the title and plot have faded away. Curtis Smith creates such characters in Sound + Noise. Jackie and Tom are burdened with the grief and fate of a superb fictional plot, and yet they are real. I felt as though I lived in their town and watched them long before their paths crossed. Combine this visceral reality with poetic descriptions and a good deal of humor, and you find Curtis Smith's novel, a heart-rending exploration of love and loss, residing somewhere between fiction and life." - Lisa Carey, author of Every Visible Thing
"In Sound + Noise, Curtis Smith identifies, examines, and prods the boundaries we create for ourselves, dramatizing complex human beings struggling against the confines of their pasts in order to create their lives anew. His prose is both exacting and evocative; his vision displays a mind willing to take on the moral ambiguities of our day. The result is a masterly portrait of the way we live now." - Kirby Gann, author of Our Napoleon in Rags
